Privacy Policy

This is a static informational website. It has no login, no user accounts, no contact form, no analytics, and it sets no cookies. Nothing is sold here and no service is offered for purchase. The only interactive element is a mailto link, which opens your own email client rather than submitting anything through this site.

Two things are nevertheless worth stating plainly: some technical information is processed in order to deliver the page to you, and one third party currently receives your IP address when the page loads. Both are described below.

Who we are, and who is responsible

Thorngate Consulting is a working name for independent research carried out by J. Hunter as an individual. It is not a company, a partnership, or a registered business of any kind, and it has no employees. The site exists so that people contacted by email can verify who is writing to them and what the research concerns.

For data protection purposes the controller is therefore J. Hunter, personally. Our hosting provider acts as a processor on his instructions. Contact: thorngateconsulting@protonmail.com.

Information processed to deliver this site

This site is hosted on Vercel. Delivering a page to your device necessarily involves processing some technical information, including your IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, and the time of the request. Vercel processes this as a processor and retains it in access logs for a limited period in line with its own retention schedule. It is not used to build profiles, and it is not combined with anything else. See Vercel's privacy notice for details.

Lawful basis: legitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)) — operating and securing a website. You can object to this processing at any time using the contact address above.

Webfonts served by Google

This site currently loads its typefaces from Google Fonts. When the page loads, your browser requests those files directly from Google's servers, which means your IP address and basic request information are transmitted to Google LLC in the United States. No cookie is set by this request, and Google states that Google Fonts requests are not used for advertising or profiling. We are moving to self-hosted fonts so that this transfer no longer occurs.

Lawful basis: legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) — consistent presentation of the site.

Cookies, analytics and tracking

This site sets no cookies and uses no local or session storage. It runs no analytics, no tag manager, no advertising pixels, and no cross-site tracking of any kind. Nothing is stored on or read from your device beyond ordinary browser caching of the page itself.

If you email us

The contact address is hosted by Proton Mail in Switzerland, a country the UK recognises as providing an adequate level of data protection. If you write to us, that correspondence is held for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and any follow-up discussion — ordinarily no more than 24 months — and is then deleted. It is not shared with third parties, not added to any mailing list, and not used for anything beyond replying to you. There is no mailing list, and no marketing is sent from this address.

International data transfers

Two transfers outside the UK arise from the above. Vercel's infrastructure involves processing in the United States under the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. The Google Fonts request described above also reaches servers operated from the United States. Email correspondence is held in Switzerland, which is covered by UK adequacy regulations and requires no additional safeguard.

Your rights

Under the UK GDPR you have the right to access your personal data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. Where processing relies on legitimate interests, as it does here, you have the right to object at any time. Contact thorngateconsulting@protonmail.com to exercise any of these.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK supervisory authority, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint. We would welcome the chance to address your concern first.

Changes to this policy

If the site changes in a way that affects this policy — for example if analytics, a contact form, or any commercial service were added — this page will be updated and the date at the top revised.
